We will all meet in the hotel lobby around 8 p.m. to make sure that everyone has arrived in Kyoto. The night will be free.
The first day we will visit a village on the outskirts of Kyoto, where there is a wonderful Buddhist temple in the mountains. We will be able to photograph its incredible gardens of golden tones of autumn leaves and the jizo, small stone statue that is believed to protect travellers and children by Japanese people, scattered throughout the gardens. After lunch we will stroll around the cute small village and at sunset we will return to Kyoto city.
The second day we will visit three different Japanese gardens in the same city of Kyoto. The gardens full of “momiji”, Japanese maples, acquire reddish tones of an overwhelming beauty. We will capture the beauty of nature along with the traditional architecture of Japanese tatami rooms. In the afternoon we will head to the heart of the city, to photograph the famous Nishiki market street, where some of the best restaurants in the city buy their handpicked food. The pickle shops and the fish stalls are some of the most photogenic places.
We will spend the third day in the east side of Kyoto. We will photograph the large wooden gate of Nanzenji temple, surrounded by beautiful autumn color trees. We will visit a poetic Japanese garden with ponds and colorful carps, an ideal environment to capture beautiful poetic photographs. In the afternoon we will approach the neighborhood of Gion. We might be able to photograph Geisha and Maiko on the way to their appointments if we were patient enough.
Today we will dedicate the day to explore the western part of the city, Arashiyama. We will get up very early to avoid the crowds and we will photograph the bamboo forest and its surrounding. We will visit a beautiful temple declared World Heritage Site, and we will stroll in the forest covered with autumn leaves and in the afternoon we will approach Kinkakuji, the famous golden temple, to capture its beauty reflected in the water of the big pond.
We will get up early again to visit the Fushimi Inari shrine, thus avoiding the crowds that visit the place. Later we will approach our favorite Zen temples in Kyoto. There we will capture the breathtaking beauty of the maples that surround a wooden bridge. After lunch, we will go to the neighborhood of Kiyomizu, where we will walk through its cobbled streets and photograph its wooden houses, looking for charming spots. After sunset we will capture the beauty of the gardens of the temples with illuminated autumn leaves.
On the sixth day we will leave behind the city of Kyoto to discover rural Japan, in the same prefecture of Kyoto. Our first stop will be a small picturesque village with traditional thatched roof houses, beautifully preserved by its inhabitants. In the afternoon we will drive a little further to north until we reach the Sea of Japan, to the small village of Amanohashidate, one of the three most famous landscapes in Japan. After photographing this famous place, we will check in ryokan, Japanese style inn, where we will spend the last night of the tour. There, we will experience a delicious dinner of kaiseki, traditional Japanese artistic meal, as well as the relaxing hot springs bath.
On the last day we will visit an old fishing village where, in the past, whales were fished. The wooden houses built practically on the water are preserved as they were designed to store their fishing boats on the first “water” floor and to live on the second floor. The bay with its crystal clear waters and the fisherman’s houses preserved as before make up an idyllic and very unique landscape. After lunch we will return to Fukuchiyama where we will take a train to return to Kyoto station, where the tour will end.

Autumnal leaves can not be guaranteed under any circumstances. Each year the trees change color on different dates. Although we always try to capture them at their best, the period in which the leaves change from green to yellow and from yellow to red varies each year depending on the temperature, rain, wind and the heat of each autumn. It is important to keep it in mind that the organizers will not have any responsibility if it is too early or too late to enjoy the autumnal landscapes during the specific dates of the trip. However, if this happens, the organizers will try to change plans to see the autumn leaves in other places.
